There are a large number of tourist guides that cover these places in great detail as to things to see and do. Certainly some of the highlights include:

Milan – the Duomo (visit the roof) & associated museums, La Scala, La Brera Gallery, the Sforteza castle & museums, and lots of shopping

Venice – The Doge’s Palace, Accademia & Guggenheim galleries, the San Marco Basilica & many other churches. The area around the Rialto bridge. Murano, Burano and other outlying islands. This summer, the Biennale is running. It’s always worth visiting some of the venues; the main area is in the Giardino.

Pisa – the main attraction is the leaning tower. The Duomo and baptistry are also very nice and in the same place. If you go, go in the morning and then hop back on the train for another 20 – 25 minutes to Lucca for the rest of the day. The walled old town has a lot to see and do.

Rome – lots of obvious places. The Colosseum and ancient Rome attractions (I like the mouth of truth & the Pantheon.) The Vatican & museums. Hundreds of fountains & churches. The Spanish Steps. There’s enough to keep you occupied for a very long time.

I use the Venere.com site for hotels here in Italy: http://www.venere.com/hotels/italy/ or there are several other sites with similar information. This one has never let me down, so I stick with it.

The trains are an efficient and cost effective way of getting artound here. You can check specific schedules and prices at: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html

I would spend more time in Rome and use Florence as a base for seeing Pisa & Lucca. Milan and Venice are worth a couple of days each unless you add time to include day trips from either. I would split the remaining time between Florence and Rome with a little more time alloted for Rome.

Venice 3 days… Pisa and Milan 1 day each one… than you can stay in Rome, and if you want from Rome you can visit Florence or Naples.
North of Italy it’s expensive, most of all Milan and Venice.
For suggestions about what to see you can see here http://www.italyguide.com/index2.php?m=menu&h=monmus_eng&sp=spot_tick
Cities names are wrote in Italian, sorry but description of monuments is in english… anyway it’s not difficult (Rome=Roma, Milan=Milano, Venice=Venezia, Pisa=Pisa)
And for Rome you can see on this page http://www.romeguide.it

    Milan is not that pretty
    but Florence& Pisa beautiful
Venice is ok but I hope you get there wen the weather is cooler in the summer smells bad
like raw eggs- Roma not to clean but passable
and if you take a taxi let the hotel call it- other wise they will rip you off
