We’re definitely feat to Sverige to meet relatives. We’re unresolved on where added to go. It’s between Estonia-Latvia-Lithuania or Denmark-Northern Germany. Somewhere added we haven’t intellection of? Any recommendations? Specific cities or sites we shouldn’t miss?

estonia, latvia, lithuania sound good. denmark and northern germany just feel like western europe, which is nice, but the others really feel baltic, more eastern.

i would highly recommend bulgaria too, but get out of the capital asap and see the country.

As a German, of course I’d recommend northern Germany. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. The isle of Rügen

is quite famous. I haven’t been there yet, because I live in the south, and don’t like the cold climate in the north. But from everybody who’s been there all I hear is “you should see it”.

All the islands and archipelagos are wonderful in high summer…

You could consider the huge archipelago of Stockholm, or the Finnish (but Swedish-speaking) Åland islands or the big island of Gotland – the city of Visby is the only place around the Baltic with an intact medivial city wall. Or go to the Estonian island of Ösel. Where ever you go, remember to try the local, sun-ripe strawberries!

If you are visiting Sweden, you could take a boat from Stockholm to Helsinki (takes about 12 hours, there are lots to do on the boat and you will see a lot of the Swedish and Finnish archipelago). You will see more of the Finnish archipelago, if you take a boat to the Finnish city Turku, but on the other hand, you than have to take a train to Helsinki (takes about 2 hours or less), the capital of Finland, which is also worth seeing!

If you want to visit the Åland islands on your way from Stockholm to Turku, you could stay a while in Åland and than continue your trip to Turku by boat. I´m sure your relatives in Sweden can advice you further about that. Åland and it´s archipelago is just fantastic!

From Helsinki you could take a ferry to Estonia and the capital Tallinn. There are ferries leaving for Estonia morning, noon and evening, and it only takes about an hour until you are in Estonia (unless you take a cruise, that takes longer). Estonia is nowadays a country worth while visiting. If you have enough time, you can easily get from there to it´s neighbour countries Latvia and Lithuania, which also are interesting countries and quite different from the western parts of Europe.

Whatever you choose, I wish you a nice visit to the northern parts of Europe.

A Happy New Year to You from Finland!
