TRIP TO ITALY: NAPLES?
Posted on 18. Mar, 2010 by admin in Europe travel
In the summer, my spouse and I are thinking a activate to Eurpope, feat to Italy, author and Spain. Our journeying begins in leaders and we were thinking to add a some player nights in the begining to go to Naples, where both of our grandfathers are from (actually a community right of Naples). Is it more sparing to go by condition or to fly? Also, is there anything to do in municipality traveler wise? The community we poverty to go to is most 1hr right of the city? Is movement to the agricultural cities innocuous for foreigners in Southern Italy?

Sounds like a wonderful trip!
Naples is a fantastic city, and close to Rome (I think a couple of hours on the train, so easier than flying!). It’s wonderful just to wander Naples, eat the best pizza in the world, and they also have some spectacular galleries if you like, for example, Renaissance art (try Capodimonte gallery – takes your breath away).
Like any big city, you should be careful, but much of the hype about Naples crime is exaggerated (or at least, not directed towards tourists). Do avoid driving there, as the roads are terrifying.
Don’t miss the chance to see where your grandfathers came from! Going to the off-the-beaten-track villages is by far the best way to have a great Italian experience; there is so much undiscovered beauty in the countryside.
Often you can find out online if public transport is available (e.g. the trenitalia trains website has an English version). Leave yourself plenty of time to miss trains etc. if you do go by public transport.

You’ll want to go by train to Naples. Take the Leonardo Express from the airport to the Rome terminal and take a train to Naples from there.
Tourist-wise, there’s Pompeii, Capri and Sorrento. Naples isn’t bad in its own right and I hear they make an OK pizza.
It doesn’t look like Roccabascerana is served by a train so you might have to rent a car and a cab would be expensive both ways and I’d be more concerned with crooks in Rome and in Naples.
Both grandfathers from the same small Italian town? That’s a mighty coincidence.

i live in the province of Salerno, which is about an hour away from naples.
from rome to naples the train would be the best option.
what to do in naples…depends on your tastes obviously.. there’s pompei, herculaneum, vesuvius national park etc….
Southern Italy is very safe, you’ve no worries there although be warned Naples is a city of great contrast from the very poor to the very rich, so walking around a poor district with a rolex watch on is asking for trouble. if you stick to the tourist track you’ll be fine.
if you’re travelling out into the rural parts of campania you’ll need to learn a little italian as english speakers are very rare..
enjoy campania is beautiful with incredible scenery, great food, wine and very welcoming people..
buon viaggio
