is travel insurance mandatory in France?

Posted on 09. Feb, 2010 by admin in Europe

I am going to France next month, my travel agency told me, I must get a travel insurance because otherway they wouldnt allow me to enter the country. I understand the importance of a travel insurance, but I didnt considerate it within my travel budget as im going to be there just few time. I’ll get it only if it’s mandatory
I checked France inmigration website, but it doesnt mention anything.
Does anybody know?

I went to France in August and there was never any mention of needing any kind of insurance. I think your agent may be trying to make a little more money.

I’m not sure if it is mandatory if you will only be traveling for a short time. My visa required it due to me being a student here. I was able to get insurance for around a dollar a day. I would suggest getting it if you are able to get similar rates.

    Good luck and have fun!

    No.
When you enter France nobody ever asks you about travel insurance and I’ve been going for over forty years.
Your travel agent is trying to make a profit out of you..
It is , however ,wise to have travel insurance but you can buy that independently on the internet and it is usually cheaper than buying from a travel agent

The only way you must have travel insurance is if you require a visa to enter France, otherwise you do not need any insurance. Most visitors do not buy insurance.
