   I’ve lived in Greece. Athens is great. The food is similar to Middle Eastern and Mediterranian. Gyros is very popular. It’s a sandwich of thinly sliced lamb and beef with onions, tomatoes, and a yogurt garlic sauce. The country is 98% Greek Orthodox Christian. It is a very stable country and is a member of the European Union. The spoken tounge is Greek though many people know and speak English. You can get by on a Visa Check Card or Credit card.

   Ok, I’m sure you didn’t mean to be offensive, but I were Greek, I most certainly would. It’s so typical of Americans to under value other countries. I can’t believe you asked about MALARIA!Were do you think Greece is??? Do you even now where it is? Greece is a member of the E.U. So yes, the currency is the EURO (€), which, by the way, has currently more value than the dollar. Many people refuse now to be payed in dollars because the € is much stronger. Don’t worry about the food, I’m sure you’ll be able to find McDonalds. And as E.U. country Greece is perfectly stable. OF COURSE there are clubs, churches, buses…Again, are you confussing Greece with some sort of poor African country? Even in African countries have those. Crime? There’s crime everywhere these days, but no, it’s no Río. And how can you ask if there are beaches when Greece’s beaches are known EVERYWHERE? Have you ever read a History book about the Greek civilization? What did you think they meant by Mediterranean? Anyway, I wasn’t planning on getting affected by this, so I will resume where I was doing. God…people like you give a bad reputation to Americans. Thankfully I’ve met normal ones and I know you’re the exception

   First of all it’s absolutely safe to travel to Greece.
   1. The currency used in the EU and as a result in Greece too, is the euro. 1 euro = 1.464 $.

   2. There is an American Embassy in Athens and consulates in major cities/towns.
   3. You’ll have the chance to taste one of the best cuisines in the world. Dishes are based on vegetables and meat. Lots of fresh salad and delicious cheese.
   4. All of the above-mentioned are possible in Greece. Very lively nightlife, lots of monuments and sights, beautiful beaches everywhere, old and new churches…Transportation is excellent in Athens, but not quite good in other parts of Greece. However taxis and buses run almost everywhere.
   5. None of the above. Travelers don’t need to take any precautions. Pollution must be high in the capital. Generally Greeks are not poor. Crime involves mostly burglaries and mugging, but that’s something that happens everywhere.
   6. Yes, it’s politically stable. It’s a parliamentary republic.

   My goodness, you make it sound like Greece is an exotic country. Greece is a developed european country, like all others.

   4. There are ATMs, Amreican Embassy, Western Union money transfer, etc.
   5. the food is excellent, you can eat many vegetarian dishes like aubergines, stuffed tomatos, etc, or meat dishes, like moussaka, steaks, etc.
   6. Thera are many ancient monumenst to visit, and restaurants, art exhibitions, museums, night clubs, shops, everything really.
   7. There is no malaria in Greece, no rabies, and AIDS or other sort of disease is not more than the rest of Europe. Generally it is a very clean place. There is some poverty, but not complete misery like in south America or Africa.
   8. The country has a very stable democracy.
   9. And yes, it is a very safe place, much more than the US.

   For God’s sake!!! I know you didn’t want to be offensive but….
   Of course there is an American Embassy, as well as embassies from every other country. If you run out of money u go to a bank of course!(and yes, there are banks, as well as tours, nightclubs, beaches, fairs, churches, buses, taxis and so on!). It’s not a dangerous city at all, in fact the crime rate is lower than the one in many American cities. Malaria shots=>no comment. Dangerous animals=> Yes, in the zoo! Greece is indeed politacally stable!

   As an American who goes to Greece each year to visit relatives of relatives and my own friends now after 8 trips, first off you need to go to your book and do some reading or you have your computer…go on line and study a bit.
   OMG, I can’t believe a teacher would put that kind of stuff in questions for a student to have to write on they are so unreal in this day and age. Where do YOU live?
   The Greeks are caring, loving, helpful people and anyone traveling there is much safer than our own large cities such as this one.
   I have never heard of any shots you would have to take going to this country..If you want to study % of AIDS cases you need to check online again for the stats that we have in USA or Africa in fact.
   There you would see history, stores for shopping (clothes and food), sea, mountains, restaurants more than you can imagine. It is a city of over 3 million population (Athens).
   I have only once registered being there with the Embassy and that was only because I was staying for a long period of time before our Pres got us in the mess in Iraq and didn’t know when it was to break out and affect my plane tickets is the only reason then.
   Never have I felt out of place any where that I have gone in the country.
   Please tell your English teacher you need to go back to the geography class to be able to write about something like this.

   The safest of all European capitals and certainly safer even than Potunk, USA. Indeed, they do have electricity in Greece, running water, indoor toilets and even bicycles. You may meet with an occasional donkey in the provinces.

   It’s strange the ideas people have about Greece.

   Before I left ‘home’ to come here I had friends telling me they were frightened for me. One because she’d seen ‘Midnight Express’. Another told me that there’d be no carpets on the floors or electricity.

   Peculiar.
